Train services on the Badulla–Ambewela section of the Upcountry Railway Line resumed this morning (20) after a 23-day suspension caused by severe damage during the ‘Ditwa’ disaster, according to the Railway Department.
The Supplementary Estimate of Rs. 500 billion to restore the livelihoods of those affected by the sudden disaster situation, presented to Parliament yesterday for the approval of Parliament, was approved in Parliament yesterday (Dec. 19).
A special discussion was held today (20) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to review district-level plans aimed at restoring the lives of citizens under the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ programme and to examine challenges that have emerged during implementation. The meeting included Secretaries of Ministries responsible for defence, agriculture, irrigation, water supply, fisheries, transport, housing and construction, heads of relevant line institutions and all District Secretaries.
A humanitarian initiative titled ‘Beyond Recovery’, launched under the Clean Sri Lanka programme, has commenced with the objective of enhancing the psychological well-being of those affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
Tiesh by Lakmini Kandy (Pvt) Ltd has made a financial contribution of Rs. 25 million to the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, established to provide relief to communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah.
