Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra held a substantive bilateral discussion with Hon. Eui-hae Cecilia Chung, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul.
The discussions focused on further strengthening economic cooperation, expanding foreign employment opportunities for Sri Lankans, enhancing development assistance, and boosting defence collaboration between the two countries.
Special attention was also given to Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic recovery efforts, including progress made in debt restructuring. Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra conveyed appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s timely assistance extended to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah and requested continued support under the Government’s “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative.
Both sides also noted the growing cultural affinity between the two nations, particularly the strong engagement of Sri Lankan youth with Korean culture, which has significantly strengthened people-to-people ties.
As Sri Lanka and the Republic of Korea prepare to mark the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, the two countries agreed to commemorate the milestone in a meaningful manner through high-level visits and strengthened institutional engagement.
The discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment of both nations to further consolidate and elevate the Sri Lanka–Republic of Korea partnership in the years ahead.
