In a significant gesture of solidarity and support, a relief cargo from the United Arab Emirates has been officially received in Sri Lanka.
The Bandaranaike Memorial National Foundation has donated Rs. 250 million to the Government to support the rebuild of the country following the emergency situation caused by the Ditva cyclone.
A humanitarian aid flight from the United States of America arrived at Jaffna International Airport today (8), carrying a significant consignment of relief materials for communities severely impacted by Cyclone Ditwa.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the Government stands ready to support the University of Peradeniya in rebuilding stronger, safer, and more resilient than before. She made these remarks while visiting the University of Peradeniya yesterday (07), where she met with student representatives and Heads of Departments affected by the sudden floods that swept through the campus on 27 November.
In particular, today we have presented to Parliament subjects concerning the Ministry of Finance, the supplementary estimate and the regulations introduced for the imposition of a State of Public Emergency under the Public Security Ordinance.
A special briefing for the diplomatic community in Sri Lanka was held on 4 December at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Mr. Vijitha Herath. Senior government officials, including representatives of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), also participated.
