Sri Lanka Customs Seize 142 Live Plants at BIA

Sri Lanka Customs officers attached to the Biodiversity, Cultural and National Heritage Protection (BCNP) Branch intercepted a Sri Lankan passenger arriving from Thailand at Bandaranaike International Airport on 09 February 2026.

The passenger, who arrived on flight TG307, was stopped at the Green Channel, where an inspection revealed 142 live plants being illegally imported in violation of the Customs Ordinance and the Plant Protection Act No. 35 of 1999.

Customs officials seized the plants and imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 on the passenger. The confiscated plants were later handed over to the Plant Quarantine Office for destruction in line with established biosecurity procedures.
