Manufacturers have assured that prices of biscuits, ice cream, chocolates, and other confectionery products will not be increased until May, following discussions with Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe.
The assurance was given during a meeting held on the 26th between the Minister and representatives of the Confectionery Manufacturers’ Association. The discussion focused on the challenges faced by the industry due to the ongoing Middle East conflict and its impact on production and consumers.
The Minister emphasized that rising consumer goods prices are difficult for the public to bear at present and stressed the need to manage the situation in a way that protects both consumers and the local industry. He also assured that the government is ready to support manufacturers in overcoming current challenges while urging them to act responsibly in the interest of consumers.
