New Headquarters of “1990 Suwa Seriya” Ambulance Service Opened in Colombo

The new head office of the “1990 Suwa Seriya” ambulance service was officially opened today (04) under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

The new office is located at No. 43, Horton Place, Colombo 07.

The Minister stated that relocating the head office from a privately-owned building in Rajagiriya, where it had been operating since 2016, to a government building will save approximately Rs. 25 million annually.

He further noted that the 1990 Suwa Seriya service, which was launched under very challenging conditions, has now achieved stability. He also expressed his gratitude to Dr. Harsha de Silva and others who played a key role in initiating the service, as well as to the Government and people of India for their support.

Currently, 322 ambulances are in operation across the island. The service receives over 5,000 calls daily and responds to more than 1,000 emergencies. With the primary goal of “saving lives,” this is a free pre-hospital emergency ambulance service available to the public.
