The Kaluganga Water Supply Project, aimed at meeting the drinking water needs of around 500,000 families in the Colombo and Kalutara districts, is to be expedited for commencement and completion within the stipulated timeframe, following a discussion chaired by Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Dr. Susil Ranasinghe yesterday (14).
The project is to be implemented with loan assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), at an estimated total cost of Rs. 73 billion.
The project will include the construction of a new water treatment plant with a capacity of 140,000 cubic metres per day, water storage towers and the required pipeline infrastructure.
Special attention was drawn to completing the project within the stipulated timeframe to ensure that its benefits reach the public without delay.
The discussion was held with a delegation from JICA, including JICA Sri Lanka Chief Coordinator Honzu Shigeo. The Ministry Secretary, Project Director and officials of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board also participated.
The need for close coordination among all relevant parties was also emphasized to minimize potential delays in implementing the project.
