Government Earns Rs. 952 Million from Disposal of Seized Court Exhibits

Courts across Sri Lanka cleared decades of seized items, earning Rs. 952 million for the government in 2025. The items included vehicles, timber, sand, weapons, and prohibited substances.

The initiative, led by Chief Justice  P. Padman Surasena and linked to the “Clean Sri Lanka” program, has also cleared cluttered court premises, making them safer and more welcoming for staff and visitors.

Many of the seized items, particularly vehicles and equipment, had been left idle for years, wasting resources and disrupting livelihoods. Their disposal not only generated significant revenue but also improved the management and efficiency of the judicial system.

Combined with other court revenues, total income reached Rs. 6.57 billion, marking a major success for judicial efficiency and accountability.
