Distribution of Housing Entitlement Certificates to the Up-Country Malayagam Community Tomorrow in Bandarawela

The distribution ceremony of housing entitlement certificates to members of the up country Malayagam community will be held tomorrow (12) at the Bandarawela Public Stadium under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

At this event, 2,000 beneficiaries from the fourth phase of the 10,000 Housing Project, implemented with the assistance of the Government of India, will receive their housing entitlements.

Implemented under the theme “A Comfortable Home, A Hygienic Life,” this joint housing initiative by the Governments of Sri Lanka and India aims to enhance the living standards of the Malayagam community. The project not only provides housing for the plantation community but also serves as a foundation for transforming them into “respectable citizens” who contribute to the progress of the nation.

The project seeks to uplift the living conditions of the Malayagam people residing in up country plantation areas by providing safe, environmentally friendly homes equipped with basic amenities. A key feature of the initiative is the transparent and systematic selection of beneficiaries.

Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Samantha Viddyarathna, Deputy Minister Pradeep Sundaralingam, other Ministers and Members of Parliament, as well as Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and representatives of the Indian Government, are expected to attend the event.
