CEB to be Restructured into Six Successor Companies from March 9

Minister of Energy Kumara Jayakody has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification providing for the establishment of six successor companies by transferring the functions and duties of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

The Gazette notification will come into effect from March 9, 2026.

According to the notification, the six successor companies will be established to handle the generation, transmission, distribution, and system operations of electricity.

Meanwhile, the remaining provisions of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act, No. 36 of 2024( with the exception of several specified sections)will also come into force from March 9, 2026.

This move will officially begin the restructuring process of the Ceylon Electricity Board, marking a major reform in Sri Lanka’s electricity sector
