The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Khalid Hamoud Nasser Alkahtani, called on the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, at the Parliamentary premises recently.
H.E. Alkahtani extended his best wishes to the Hon. Speaker and highlighted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia. He also reiterated Saudi Arabia's commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in various areas of development.
Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne expressed his heartfelt gratitude for Saudi Arabia's longstanding support to Sri Lanka over the past five decades. He acknowledged the strong friendship between the two countries and emphasized Sri Lanka’s focus on developing its agriculture, industrial, and tourism sectors, seeking Saudi Arabia's support in these areas.
The Speaker also conveyed his intention to revive the Sri Lanka-Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Tenth Parliament to strengthen inter-parliamentary ties.
The discussions were further focused on opportunities in foreign investment, power and energy sectors, in order to enhance cooperation between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.
The Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, was also present at the meeting.
