The Southern Provincial Industries Ministry has sought the assistance and cooperation of the Ruhuna University Agriculture Faculty to manufacture textiles utilizing fibre obtained from bamboo and plantain trees.
According to Provincial Industries Minister, countries like China and Philipines are harnessing threads of fibre obtained from bamboo and plantain trees for textile production.
The ministry is also exploring the possibility of using fibre from wetakeiya and pineapple trees for textile production.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
