The Government has unveiled a programme to establish Mobile Paddy Warehouses in areas where there are less facilities to stock paddy. Accordingly the stocking of paddy in Mobile Warehouses in the Polonnaruwa District commenced at the Kaduruwela Paddy Marketing Board’s Mobile Warehouse.
The cost of one such Paddy Warehouse is 2.6 million rupees. 120 metric tons of paddy could be stocked in each warehouse. Noteworthy is the ability to stock paddy for a period of one year sans any insect infection. Measures have been taken to establish six such Mobile Paddy Warehouses within the Polonnaruwa District.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
