    November 24, 2014

The growth achieved with a very short time in the Small Scale power generation sector in Sri Lanka contributed effectively to reach the pulley goal, that says 10% of the generation is from renewable sources targeting at 2016, the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy revealed.

If we are to 'reach the 20% target that should be achieved by 2020 in terms of renewable power generation, we should utilize wind power, solar power and biomass sources as well and it is necessary to accelerate the development activities associated with it, Ministry added.

In order for the renewable energy to give its 20% contribution to the national grid, the need to expand the national grid to the necessary level; technical issues that could affect the national grid by the fluctuation, which is a characteristic .existing in renewable energy that affects the stability of the central network, and the. extra cost caused by the need to keep other generation plant in order to withstand such fluctuations should all be taken into consideration.
