The Disaster Management Unit said that people in several areas of the Puttalam District are undergoing hardships due to heavy showers. This situation has been caused mainly due to illegal constructions and blocking of water ways.
More than 1500 families at five Divisional Secretariat areas of the district are affected by the stagnating rain water. Accordingly,
Puttalam Divisional Secretary N.H.M. Chithrananda said several speedy methods have been introduced to drain out rain water which has been collected at the villages in the Puttalam District.
