The Minister said that the relevant plantation company has expressed their willingness to provide lands required for the construction of houses and there are several problems to be resolved in transportation of building material. However, measures have been taken to expedite construction with the assistance of state institutions, said the Minister and added that the houses will be constructed at locations that have been cleared by the National Building Research Organization.
The displaced families staged a protest yesterday demanding the authorities to provide houses for them. They said that one year has passed since they lost their houses due to the landslides at Koslanda, Meeriyabedda in Haldulmulla but most of the displaced are still living in camps.
At present 275 landslide victims from 82 families are living in the Mahakanda Factory Welfare Camp.
