An inaugural function to cultivate indigenous varieties of paddy in the Kimbulawela model fields adhering to the ancient agricultural framework. was held under the auspices of the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka. 91 farmers are to cultivate indigenous varieties of paddy within the Kimbulawela fields spanning 56 acres adhering to traditional methods.
It is planned to utilize only organic fertilizer. Indigenous paddy varieties are being cultivated by the Urban Development Authority in collaboration with the Maharagama Agrarian Services Centre.
