On the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake continues his four-day state visit to China, beginning the third day (16) by participating in an investment session scheduled for this morning.
Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy effective from 31st December 2024. The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda officially handed over the letter of appointment to Rear Admiral Chinthaka Kumarasinghe at the Navy Headquarters yesterday (15th January 2025) and expressed his best wishes to him in his new role as Deputy Chief of Staff.

Date 15.01.2025 Time : 3.00 p.m  The Navy intercepted a suspect (01) attempting to transport approximately 2,137 undersized conch shells in a dinghy during a search operation off Paramunei, Kalpitiya, yesterday.  A considerable rainfall has been occurred in Upstream areas of Malwathu Oya as of 1.00 pm today.  In response to an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake, who is currently on a state visit to China, visited the exhibition hall on the history of the Communist Party of China today (15).  The National Water Supply and Drainage Board informs that water supply will be suspended to the following areas for a period of 12 hours from 06.00 PM on 16.01.2025 to 06.00 AM on 17.01.2025 due to essential maintenance work on the main water pipeline supplying water to Colombo.  Showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the island and cloudy skies are expected. Fairly heavy showers about 100mm are likely at some places in Eastern, Uva, Central and Southern provinces and in Polonnaruwa district.

The traditional Thai Pongal festival, a celebration of the harvest, was observed at the Prime Minister’s Office on January 14 under the auspices of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasooriya.
