Sri Lanka has called for the immediate de-escalation of rising tensions in the Middle East and West Asia, expressing deep concern over the rapidly worsening situation and its threat to civilian populations.
In a statement, the Government condemned attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure and emphasized that protecting civilians is a fundamental obligation under international humanitarian law.
Sri Lanka said it is closely monitoring developments due to the serious humanitarian crisis and potential impacts on the global economy and international trade.
The Government also urged all parties to respect the principles of the UN Charter, exercise maximum restraint, and return to negotiations to reduce tensions and maintain regional and global peace.
