Russia has expressed willingness to support Sri Lanka in meeting its energy requirements, with plans to encourage Russian investors to explore new investment opportunities in the country.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko made these remarks during a meeting held yesterday (02) with Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath.
Rudenko noted that Sri Lanka is a long-standing friend of Russia and emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties. He assured that Russia is ready to assist Sri Lanka whenever support is needed.
He also stated that steps will be taken to attract more Russian tourists to Sri Lanka and that Russia has agreed to take necessary measures to provide compensation for Sri Lankan security personnel who died in Russia.
Minister Vijitha Herath expressed appreciation for Russia’s support, especially at a time when Sri Lanka is facing significant energy challenges. He added that the longstanding diplomatic relations between the two countries, spanning nearly 70 years, should be further strengthened through long-term trade agreements in the future.
