A foundation stone will be laid tomorrow (19) for the construction of a nursing quarters complex for the nursing staff of Point Pedro Base Hospital at a cost of Rs. 212 million. The ceremony is scheduled to be held tomorrow afternoon under the patronage of Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
The project has been initiated to address the long-standing shortage of accommodation facilities for the hospital’s nursing staff, which has caused considerable difficulties for them over an extended period.
The construction will be carried out using funds allocated by the Northern Provincial Council under the Government’s programme to develop physical resources in the health sector.
The initiative is part of the Government’s programme to continuously provide quality, efficient and excellent healthcare services to the public by improving the efficiency of hospitals and other healthcare institutions.
The Governor of the Northern Province, local political representatives, the Provincial Chief Secretary and other officials, together with the hospital staff, are expected to participate in the foundation-laying ceremony.
