Rs. 150 Mn Worth Assets of Drug Trafficker Frozen

The Police Illegal Assets Investigation Division has taken steps to freeze properties worth Rs. 150 million belonging to a drug trafficker, believed to have been acquired using illegally earned money.

The suspect, a 46-year-old resident of Moratuwa, was arrested today (25) in Horetuduwa.

According to investigations, the suspect had purchased several properties using proceeds from drug trafficking. These include a house built on an 11-perch land valued at Rs. 50 million in Panadura Keselwatta, and a three-storey house on a 16-perch land worth Rs. 100 million in Moratuwa.

Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act No. 05 of 2006, authorities have issued orders to freeze these assets for seven days.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (26), while further investigations are underway.
