Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya meets German Parliamentary Delegation

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met with a visiting German parliamentary delegation at Temple Trees on September 16, during their official visit to Sri Lanka.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Germany, with particular attention to trade and investment, renewable energy, education and vocational training, social development, and regional cooperation.

The Prime Minister welcomed the growing high-level engagement between the two countries and highlighted opportunities to further expand economic cooperation. German businesses were also invited to participate in Sri Lanka’s upcoming Trade and Investment Summit and Expo.

Discussions on Sri Lanka’s energy transition focused on the country’s renewable energy targets, with particular attention to energy storage, grid modernisation, wind power and the gradual electrification of public transport.

The Prime Minister also outlined the ongoing education reforms, particularly efforts to strengthen vocational education and introduce vocational pathways from the junior secondary level. Germany’s dual-track vocational education and training system was highlighted as an important area for further cooperation and exchange of expertise.

The two sides also exchanged views on gender equality and social inclusion, as well as Sri Lanka’s approach to regional stability and international cooperation.
