Milk powder importers and wheat flour companies have assured that prices will not be increased despite the ongoing Middle East crisis and rising fuel costs.
This assurance was given during a meeting with Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe yesterday (23).
Company representatives said there are enough stocks of imported milk powder and wheat flour for the next three months. Therefore, prices will remain unchanged until the end of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.
They also discussed issues affecting supply and distribution due to the current situation and rising fuel prices, and ways to maintain a continuous supply.
Although fuel prices and the US dollar have increased costs, companies said they aim to support the public during this difficult time.
The Minister also instructed companies to register for a special data collection programme to identify fuel needs for food distribution and improve planning.
