The Pettah Central Bus Terminal was officially reopened to the public this morning (08) following a complete renovation, under the patronage of Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Bimal Rathnayake.
The project, carried out at a cost of Rs. 424 million under the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, was completed ahead of schedule as a result of a large-scale operation conducted around the clock with the technical and labor contribution of the Sri Lanka Air Force, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, the Colombo Municipal Council, and several other institutions.
The upgraded terminal now provides modern facilities for approximately 75,000 daily passengers and nearly 2,000 buses.
The ground floor has been allocated for bus operations, while the first floor includes air-conditioned rest facilities for drivers and conductors. The second floor houses offices of the Sri Lanka Transport Board along with a modern auditorium.
In addition, the first floor is equipped with commercial outlets and modern sanitary facilities, while the second floor also includes dedicated accommodation facilities for school children.
