The national beach cleaning program for creating beautiful beaches under the theme “A Beautiful Beach - An Attractive Tourist Destination” will be launched today (09) at the Mattakkuliya Kakadupatha Beach Park under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, said Senior Additional Secretary to the President H.M.K.G.B. Gunaratne.
The Senior Additional Secretary to the President said this while participating in a media briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday (08) to raise awareness about the Clean Sri Lanka national program.
He pointed out that the coastal zone, which plays a major role in the economy of Sri Lanka, has been polluted due to various human activities, and various types of plastic and non-biodegradable waste have been added to the ocean. This program has been organized with the aim of conveying to the public the importance of cleaning the coastal zone. Expressing further comments, the Senior Additional Secretary to the President said that under this program, the 1740 kilometer coastline surrounding Sri Lanka will be cleaned.
