Meeting between the Secretary to the President and the Turkish Ambassador
  • Turkish Ambassador Reaffirms Continuous Support to Achieve Economic Goals

A meeting between Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President and Semih Lütfü Turgut, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, in Sri Lanka, took place this morning (14) at the Presidential Secretariat. 

During the discussion, Ambassador Turgut reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in achieving its economic development goals while further strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations. 

He also praised the Sri Lankan government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” programme and expressed Türkiye’s willingness to assist in the country’s digitalization efforts and poverty alleviation programs aimed at improving rural livelihoods. 

Furthermore, the Ambassador emphasized Türkiye’s continued support for Sri Lanka’s development initiatives in education, healthcare, and agriculture. He noted that several agreements related to these sectors are expected to be signed in the near future.  

Ambassador Turgut also announced an increase in the scholarship quota for Sri Lankan students studying in Türkiye, raising it from 15 to 25. 

Additionally, he extended an official invitation to President Anura Kumara Disanayake for an official visit to Türkiye in April this year. 

First Secretary, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Colombo, Merve Gözde Otlu, was also present at the meeting.
