Deputy Minister of Defence embarks on visit to Navy Headquarters

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) made his visit to the Navy Headquarters recently.Upon arrival, he was accorded a traditional Guard of Honour, reflecting the Navy's deep-rooted customs and warmly received by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda.

Following the ceremonial welcome, the Commander of the Navy introduced the Chief of Staff and members of the Board of Management to the Deputy Minister. Later, he engaged in a fruitful discussion with the Commander of the Navy and it drew to a close with an exchange of mementoes, marking the importance of the occasion.

Official visit was followed by an engaging session, in which the Director General Operations delivered a detailed briefing outlining the Sri Lanka Navy’s organizational framework, naval diplomacy initiatives, contemporary challenges, research and development efforts and strategic plans for the future.

Following this, the Deputy Minister addressed naval personnel and civil staff employees, praising the Navy for its steadfast dedication to protecting the country's maritime interests. He highlighted the significant responsibility placed on the Navy as the key maritime defence force of an island nation.

Moreover, Major General Jayasekara (Retd) expressed his gratitude to the Navy for its active engagement in the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ campaign, highlighting its contributions to environmental preservation. He also emphasized the Navy’s critical role in national development and the successful execution of policy implementation.

Recognizing the Sri Lanka Navy's global standing as a formidable maritime force, he emphasized the need for ongoing progress in capabilities, technological proficiency, and professional excellence. Further, he urged both officers and sailors to improve their skills and knowledge, promoting a culture of innovation and professionalism.

Following his address, the Deputy Minister took time off to interact with the naval personnel and civil staff employees, sharing moments of camaraderie and appreciation for their dedication.
