The newly renovated Colombo Fort Bus Stand is scheduled to commence operations today (8), according to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.
The renovation was carried out under the “Clean Sri Lanka” national programme, with the Sri Lanka Air Force providing labor support for the project.
Under the first phase, several improvements have been completed, including the refurbishment of existing buildings, the establishment of an information center, installation of sanitation facilities, and the development of an external parking and queuing area for buses. Once fully completed, the ground floor will function as the main bus terminal, the second floor will be allocated for driver and conductor rest areas, and the third floor will serve as an administrative and operations center.
Meanwhile, special transport services for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year season are set to commence tomorrow (April 9) from the bus stand. Approximately 1,500 additional buses have been deployed to operate services to multiple destinations, including Hatton, Badulla, Kandy, Bandarawela, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Jaffna, Chilaw, and Puttalam, the Ministry stated.
