The guidance of the Maha Sangha is essential to transform Sri Lankan politics into a better political culture - Speaker

Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne emphasized that the guidance of the Maha Sangha is crucial for transforming Sri Lankan politics and fostering a better political culture.

The Speaker expressed these views during the ceremony held on recently at the Sri Sumana Shailarama Temple in Mattaka, Poddiwela to confer the title of “Adikarana Sanghanayake” of the Bentara Walallawita Korala and the Galu Wellabada Pattuwa with the honorary title of “Wimala Keerthi Sri Pangnaloka” on the Chief Incumbent of the Sri Sumana Shailarama Temple in Mattaka, Poddiwela Ven. Yatalamatte Sumangala Thera.

Meanwhile, the Speaker also met the Malayigam Tamil community living in the tea estates of the Udugama Dolawatta area and inquired about the issues of that community, and paid homage to the Muthumari Amman Kovil and received blessings.

During this visit, the Speaker also toured the Kanneliya Forest Reserve. He then met with the Bishop of Galle, His Eminence Raymond Wickramasinghe, at the Hiniduma Calvary Shrine and received his blessings. Speaking at the meeting, the Bishop acknowledged the current political culture and expressed confidence that Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne would play a pivotal role in advancing positive change within Parliament.

The Speaker also drew attention to the issues with regard to the Calvary shrine. Furthermore, new approaches to working with understanding among all parties to promote religious coexistence and ethnic harmony in Sri Lanka were also discussed during this meeting.

Galle District Parliamentarians of the National People's Power, T.K. Jayasundara, Nishantha Perera and the Galle District Parliamentarian of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Gayantha Karunathilaka were present on this occasion.
