A delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) met with the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, recently at Parliament premises.
The delegation was led by the newly appointed Head of Delegation of the ICRC Sri Lanka, Ms. Séverine Chappaz, and included Ms. Ruwanthi Jayasundara, Communications Manager of the ICRC Sri Lanka; Mr. John Entwistle, Head of the South Asia Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; and Dr. Mahesh Gunasekara, Director General of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Mr. Chaminda Kularatne was also present at the meeting.
The key focus of the meeting was to discuss organizing a workshop for Members of Parliament to raise awareness about the work of the ICRC and explore how the organization can support Sri Lanka's ongoing development efforts.
Additionally, the discussion highlighted Sri Lanka’s new policies aimed at promoting national reconciliation, as well as the political and cultural advancements achieved by the Tenth Parliament.
The Speaker Dr. Wickramaratne stressed the need for continued collaboration and urged the ICRC to offer sustained support for Sri Lanka's future development initiatives.
