    BOI signs an agreement for Maldivian Higher Education Institute

    The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka signed an agreement with Villa Education Services Lanka (Pvt) Ltd which is a Maldivian Investment for a project to set up Higher Education Institute in Sri Lanka.

    Dr Lakshman Jayaweera, Chairman of the BOI signed the agreement on behalf of the BOI and Dr. Ahmed Anwar, Rector of Villa College and Chief Executive Officer of Villa  Educational Services Lanka (Private) Limited signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian company.

    Villa College is the first private higher education institution recognized by the Government of Maldives. Since its inception, it has become hallmark for quality, accessibility and affordability. The undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered at Villa College represent the nation’s best and are taught by renowned academic staff that is in forefront in their respective fields.

    The Villa College Colombo Project is aims to internationalise Villa College provision of higher education and to become a regional leader in the provision of higher education. To this end, the project is divided into two major phase.

    The first phase of the project would involve establishment of Villa College Campus in Sri Lanka in mid-2014 and commence delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in affiliation with international partners of Villa College. The main areas of teaching under the first phase would comprise of tourism management, international business and intercultural studies, finance and engineering.

    The second phase of the project of would involve a mega development comprising of the establishment of a fully-fledged University Campus with student accommodation and all modern amenities to facilitate the 21st Century higher education. The second phase of the project will commence in mid-2015.

    At the moment Villa College works with number of international partners, especially from Europe and has been a member of two of the largest higher education quality agencies – international Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) the Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN)(KH/SI)
