Prime Minister Wickremasinghe was speaking on the occasion of opening a four storied building put up for the Primary Division of the Royal College Colombo. The building has been constructed by the Old Boys Union of the College at a cost of 80 million rupees. In his address the Prime Minister revealed of plans that are in place to effect changes to the education fields in the country.

The Prime Minister said that frequent changes should be made in accordance to the world. new technology should be utilized to a great extent too adapt to the fast changing world, One thousand tabs would be given for the benefit of the children of Royal College. Such tabs would also be given to children of other schools.

Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Harsha de Silva joined in this occasion.

Addressing the function, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam revealed of political interference that is taking place in the admission of children to schools. The Minister said that in the past thousands of children from preschools such as the Carlton Pre School had been admitted to schools. Children had also been admitted on lists prepared by the President’s House. The time has come to change these concepts. As such he said that a decision has been taken to stop admitting children to schools based on politicos’ lists.
