President Maithripala Sirisena will launch the programme today from the Polonnaruwa District General Hospital premises. The authorities will simultaneously unveil free Wi-Fi zones in 100 major towns and the relevant services will be made available from today.
As per a pledge made by President Sirisena in his election manifesto, 'Free Wi-Fi for Regional Towns programme' was spearheaded by the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRC SL).
Sri Lankan users will thus be able to access the internet up to 100 MB free of charge per month at locations where the facility is available.
