The President addressing the function said that the supply of power to the village is a massive investment made on behalf of the future generation. He further added that with the provision of electricity to villagers and with rural children receiving new technology, the village communities will have the opportunity to win over the world
The Government has taken initiatives to provide electricity to 12,850 rural families through Rural Electrification Schemes under the Soorya Mangallaya Aluth Avurudhu Eliya electrification programme.
The government determined to grant power supplies to rural families to celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year in grandeur symbolically vested under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena, power extensions and 758 Rural Electrification Schemes which has been completed in each district. The government has incurred 1975 million rupees for this work. According to the Electricity Board, the Vidulamu Lanka Rural Electrification Scheme has mooted this programme.
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, President’s Secretary P.B. Wijekoon and Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy P.M.S. Batagoda were among those present on the occasion.
