    President meets members of Trade Union Federation Featured

    A meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Trade Union Federation was held at the Presidential Secretariat,yesterday (05). The problems faced by the public sector including railway, education, health and labor sectors were presented to the President.

    The President also focused attention on several other issues presented by the trade union including the problem of losing pension rights of those public servants who have been appointed after 01st of January 2016, implementing a common program to make casual/substitute and temporary employees who have served more than 180 days in the public service permanent employees, and Implementing a general rule of law regarding the requirement for public officers to pass the Level II Examination for Official Languages Proficiency.

    The President stated that he is taking maximum possible steps to address these issues. President Sirisena advising all trade union representatives to forward the problems and their ideas and suggestions relevant to the issues in writing to him promptly, said he will direct them to relevant ministries and look into the next steps.

    Parliamentarian Mahinda Amaraweera, SLFP trade unions secretary Lasantha Alagiyawanna and vice secretary Weerakumara Dissanayaka, along with nearly 40 representatives of the union including the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Trade Union Federation Roy de Mel attended the discussion.
