    President graces ‘Uthamabhivandana Ranga Pelahara’ Featured

    President Maithripala Sirisena was the chief guest at the ‘Uththamabhivandana Ranga Pelahara’, which showcased the 1818 Uva Wellassa rebellion yesterday (3rd April) at the Nelum Pokuna Theater in Colombo.


    This was created in parallel to the issuance of gazette notification by President Maithripala Sirisena declaring the war heroes of 1818 rebellion as patriots recently. They had been named as traitors by the colonial rulers.

     


    The Department of Government Information (DGI) organized the event on the advice of President Sirisena. The drama was directed by eminent artiste, Gaya Ramya Alwis and conducted by well known composer Ravibandhu Vidhyapathy. Saman Lenin provided music for the drama in which the cast included Nisshanka Diddeniya, Sanath Wimalasiri, Madhani Malwattage, Chandana Irigalbandara, Ranga Weerakoon and Mohamed Safraz.

     


    Mahasangha, clergy, Ministers and MPs including the Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake, Director General of DGI Dr. Ranga Kalansooriya, intellectuals and artistes participated on this occassion.
