    March 25, 2016

COPE Committee has instructed the Ceylon Electricity Board officials to submit a report on the measures that the CEB has taken in order to provide an uninterrupted electricity supply, within two months.

The Parliamentary sources revealed that the COPE has instructed the CEB high ranking officials including the General Manager when they were summoned before it yesterday (24th March) to inquire into the recent power failures experienced in the country. This was the first time that the CEB officials were summoned before COPE in connection with a power failure.

It was revealed that the COPE was not contended with the CEB's stance that the interruption was occurred not because of the inefficiency of the CEB.

The Parliamentary sources revealed that the CEB officials were of the stance that power had to be cut due to the Coal Power plant's security measure of turning itself off during a transformer failure.

The officials had been instructed to formulate a mechanism to secure an uninterrupted power supply in future. (CDN)
