The media personnel island-wide will be given a smart phone and a data package at a concessionary price said the Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure Hareen Fernando.
He stated this today (18) in Parliament joining the committee stage debate of Budget 2016..
Media personnel who have obtained accreditation from the Government Information Dept. will be given smart phones and data packages from next year said the Minister.
Also a phone and a "Methkalaguna" package for the senior citizens as well as a Tablet phone for the university students will be given from next year, he added.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
