    Government ready to re-open country under restrictions effective October 1.

    The Government expects to re-open the country under restrictions with effect from October 1, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says.

     

    The Minister who engaged in an inspection tour of Navalapitiya District Hospital said that decisions could be taken in that regard until September 30.

    The prevailing shortfalls of the hospital were drawn to the attention of the visiting Minister. Navalapitiya hospital was upgraded to a District Hospital in 2004. The hospital is
    currently administered by the Central Provincial Council and the current plan to take over it by the Central Government will be implemented soon.

    Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and a group of political representatives, Health Services Director General Dr Asela Gunawardana and several of his officials also joined in the inspection tour with the Health Minister.

    The Health Minister urged the people to follow the Health Guidelines strictly after the re-opening of the country and assist the Government to control the pandemic successfully.

    Health Minister Rambukwella further said:

    The spread of COVID-19 has been controlled successfully. We are in the 10th place of the countries which have successfully given both vaccines to citizens over 30 years old.

    Vaccination of people between the ages of 20 and 29 has started. Vaccination of children between 12 and 19 who are suffering from various complications began from Kurunegala and Anuradhapura yesterday.

    At the same time, the reports of COVID-19 related death toll have also been reduced, he said.
