Cabinet Spokesman and Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella stated that, upon receiving the Sputnik V vaccine, it will be distributed to the provinces outside the Western Province, which have a higher risk of the prevalence of the disease.
He said this responding to a question raised by a journalist during the cabinet decision media briefing held today (24) at the Department of Government Information.
The Minister said that the Cabinet has approved funds to purchase the Sputnik V vaccine and that it would be possible to provide two doses of it to 3.5 million people.
He also affirmed that the Indian vaccine is already being distributed in high-risk districts and that all the individuals who received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine would be given the second jab of the same vaccine.
Minister Rambukwella stated that a name list has been requested of the journalists who associate the general public often in order to expedite their vaccination and many journalists who have given their names have already received the vaccine.
