The Minister highlighted this while answering a question raised by a journalist at the Cabinet decision media briefing held today (16) at the Department of Government Information.
He explained that the prosecution has to be carried out by the Attorney General's Department and that neither the Select Committee of Parliament or himself have the jurisdiction to oversee this and that the Attorney General's Department would take up the matter expeditiously.
Minister Pathirana further pointed out that the Select Committee of Parliament on the Easter Attack was appointed to scrutinize how to prevent the recurrence of such a situation and that the committee including himself is currently examining the means to prevent such a situation from recurring.
