    Japanese FM Motegi to visit Sri Lanka

    Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi is scheduled visit Sri Lanka and Spain from December 14-17, 2019, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.The Minister is first scheduled to visit Moscow where he will hold peace treaty talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. His visit to Moscow will be preceded by a stop in Sri Lanka from Thursday followed by Madrid,Spain on Saturday where he will attend the 14th ASEM Foreign Minister’s meeting.

    Japan had last month welcomed the peaceful and successful holding of the Presidential election in Sri Lanka and expressed its congratulations on the election of Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the President of Sri Lanka.Japan had said that it hopes that under the leadership of President Rajapaksa and with the cooperation from all parties concerned in Sri Lanka, the country will achieve economic development and national reconciliation which will contribute to regional stability and prosperity as a hub of the Indo-Pacific region.
