    Sri Pada Pilgrim season begins today Featured

    The Sri Pada Pilgrim season begins today (Unduwap Full Moon Poya Day).Arrangements have been made to convey the Sacred Casket of Relics and the statues of God Saman to the Uda Maluwa along four routes from the Pelmadulla Galpottawala Sri Pada Viharaya.


    The four routes will be from Sri Pada Viharaya to Uda Maluwa through Balangoda, Bogawanthalawa, Hatton and Nallatanniya from Pelmadulla to Udamaluwa through Ratnapura, Avissawella, Hatton and Nallatanniya, Pelmadulla to Uda Maluwa through Ratnapura Sri Palabaddala Raja Mawatha and from Ratnapura Maha Saman Devalaya to Udamaluwa through Panadura road, Kuruwita and Eratna.
    The pilgrim season will begin after the Casket of Relics and statues of God Saman are placed at the Sri Pada Maluwa on December 11.They will be kept there for veneration of devotees for a period of six months. The pilgrim season will conclude on Vesak Poya Day 2020 after which the Casket of Relics and the statues would be taken back to the Pelmadulla Galpottawala Sri Pada Viharaya.Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa visited the Galpottawala Sri Pada Viharaya to pay homage to the Sacred Relics and the images.
