The Cabinet of Ministers yesterday (24th Oct.) approved a proposal to implement a program with immediate effect to make the public aware on the Local Authorities Election (Amendment) Act No. 16 of 2017.
The legal foundation of new election system has been prepared by this Act and public are unaware of these amendments yet.
The proposal was jointly made by Prime Minister and National Policies and Economic Affairs Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faizer Mustapha and Women and Child Affairs Minister Chandrani Bandara.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
News.lk publishes in three languages – Sinhala, Tamil and English.
