A National Defence College is proposed to be established in Sri Lanka with the view of connecting Sri Lanka with the world strategically, gathering Sri Lankan and foreign academics in one knowledge hub, and providing a proper training for military and civil officers on defense strategies and methods.
Accordingly, the proposal made by the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to use the 'Mumtaz Mahal' premises, which was the former official residence of the Speaker by undertaking required renovations in this regard considering the importance of locating it around Colombo, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
