Earlier in this week, opposition MP Wasudeva Nanayakkara had alleged the Minister Ranawaka is responsible  for this tender as the then Minister of Power and Energy. But, Minister Ranawake clarified that the Cabinet paper on this tender had been presented on 22nd September in 2015, where he was not the incharge for the subject.

However, on 13th August 2015 the Minister Ranawake has also written to President Maithripala Sirisena requesting to cancel the tender and to call for fresh bids internationally.  When the tender was challenged in the Supreme Court, the court ordered the cancellation of the tender and call for fresh bids.
