Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), Kriengkrai Thiennukul recently to discuss enhancing trade, investment, tourism and industrial collaboration between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
During the meeting, Ambassador Edirisinghe expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue. She acknowledged FTI’s pivotal role in driving Thailand's industrial growth and highlighted the Embassy’s commitment to deepening bilateral collaboration.
Moreover, the Ambassador emphasized the potential for further strengthening bilateral trade ties and outlined key opportunities for Thai investors in Sri Lanka, including in tourism-related projects, value-added agriculture and export-oriented investments leveraging Sri Lanka’s untapped agricultural potential. She also highlighted logistics and infrastructure development facilitated by Sri Lanka’s strategic location in the Indian Ocean, gemstone mining and processing, a sector where Sri Lanka holds global leadership and presents immense opportunities for Thai investors, and renewable energy projects aligned with Sri Lanka’s focus on sustainability.
Chairman Thiennukul warmly welcomed the discussions and highlighted the commitment of the Federation of Thai Industries to fostering deeper collaboration between Thailand and Sri Lanka. He expressed FTI's readiness to serve as a bridge, connecting potential industrialists and investors from both countries to explore synergies and promote mutually beneficial ventures. He also highlighted the Federation's robust network of industry leaders and its ability to facilitate meaningful engagements that can drive industrial and economic growth in both countries.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both parties to fostering economic partnerships and leveraging the strengths of Sri Lanka and Thailand for mutual growth. Counsellor (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, Vireshika Bandara also joined the discussion.
