Sri Lanka has recorded a significant increase in foreign remittances during the first two months of 2026, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The country received remittances totaling US$ 1,480.1 million from overseas Sri Lankan workers during January and February this year. This marks a 32% increase compared to US$ 1,121.1 million received during the same period in 2025.
In February alone, remittance inflows amounted to US$ 729 million, reflecting a 33% rise from US$ 548.1 million recorded in February last year.
The Central Bank noted that the positive trend in workers’ remittances observed in recent months has continued into February 2026, with inflows showing strong year-on-year growth in the early part of the year.
