Compensation and livelihood assistance were officially distributed today to several families affected by the recent severe storm in the Welimada Divisional Secretariat Division.
As part of the Government’s compensation scheme, four homeowners whose houses were completely destroyed by the storm received the first installment of compensation cheques worth Rs. 2 million each. The payments were made under the maximum compensation package of Rs. 5 million allocated for fully damaged houses.
In addition, financial assistance ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 75,000 was granted to 78 affected families in the area to help them restart and develop their livelihoods that were disrupted by the disaster.
The special ceremony was held at the Welimada Divisional Secretariat with the participation of Chairman of the Welimada Pradeshiya Sabha Ajith Kumara, the Welimada Divisional Secretary, other government officials, and beneficiaries from the area.
